Life is never dull living close to the Thames! Saturday saw the annual Great River Race, an event attracting rowing teams from all over the globe. The competition is open to any boat so long as it has a minimum of four oars or paddles.
It's a gruelling course from the start point in Millwall all the way to Ham in Surrey and a complex nautical handicap system is in place.
One of the rules states that every competing craft needs to take a passenger, so some people just turn up at the start hoping for a ride. I may try that next year!
This year more than 300 boats took part with over 2400 participants...

It's a hard day's work organising the launches

Although competitive it is overall a fun event and not taken too seriously by some of the teams
It's muddy on the slipway!
