I'll never forget my first visit to Photokina when I was starting out as a young assistant photographer. I was in awe of the scale of event and every subsequent visit am still impressed.
It's on a different scale from any other photo trade exhibition, it's as big as a small town. This year seven halls were spread across a vast site with over 1000 exhibitors and nearly 200,000 visitors over six days.
Back in the day Kodak were the most dominant brand by far and took over a whole hall. How times have changed! Kodak is now a shadow of its former self, a company that completely underestimated the speed and growth of digital and lost the race.
Here's a few images of the day. I'd encourage any professional photographer or enthusiastic amateur to pay a visit to the next show in 2018.
